Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane is a colorless, transparent or milky white liquid with flammability and no odor. It is a compound obtained by the hydrolysis synthesis process of dimethyl dichlorosilane, followed by separation and distillation. It is an important intermediate in the organic silicon industry, mainly used for the preparation of organic silicon polymers such as methyl silicone oil. Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (OMCTS) has several applications in the semiconductor industry. First, it can act as a lubricant in the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process of semiconductor manufacturing. Due to its unique ring structure and low surface tension, octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane can form a protective film on the friction surface, reducing friction and wear, and improving the efficiency and life of mechanical equipment. Secondly, octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane can also be used in the field of optical coating. It can be used to prepare thin films with high refractive index to improve the performance of optical devices. In addition, octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane also has good oxidation resistance, which can prevent corrosion of metal materials due to oxidation, so it is also widely used in lubricating oil, rust prevention agent and other fields.
Storage and Transportation Precautions
1. Store in a cool, ventilated, and dry place, away from flames and heat sources, with an ambient temperature of less than 30 ℃.

The mainstream preparation method is
Add dimethyldichlorosilane dropwise to water at a temperature of 30-40 ℃, layer and remove the acidic water. The oily substance is hydrolyzed with sodium hydroxide solution, and the hydrolysate and 0.5% -2% potassium hydroxide are added to the cracking kettle. The cracking is carried out under a vacuum of 120-140 ℃ and 99.8 kPa. The cracked product was fractionated and the 173-176 ℃ fraction was collected to obtain octamethylcyclotetraoxosilane.
